Genting 12 - 14th May 2008

Headed out to Genting and Malacca for a short getaway with the geog soc ppl from the 12th to 15th May. It was a rather rushed trip as we got to be back in Singapore to prepare for FASS open house. If we could stay longer, I figure it would be more fun if we would drop by KL as well.
It was my 4th trip to Genting this time round. My last trip was in Nov 2006 and when i went back again after 1 1/2 years, nothing has changed. Everything was still exactly the same in Genting. All the shops, the outdoor and indoor theme park remained unchanged. Even the breakfast they serve is exactly what I had the last time i went. What made this trip different was the company of the geog soc ppl. I really had lots of fun with them at the rather boring place.

This time round, the weather in Genting was really good. It was never this cold on the previous 3 times that I went. On the 2nd day, the mist was present practically through the whole day. Reminds me of heaven. Luckily the rides did not close down due to the mist.

Visibility down to 50m??

We took the Genting Skyway Cable car down as we had nothing much to do on the first day. Tickets at RM10 both ways. Quite cheap if you consider it to be a sightseeing ride. The ride up and down can get rather dull at times. I remember there used to be figures of animals, human and flower on the ground along the path of the cable car, but now, these display items were badly maintained and some were even gone. Unless one has something to talk to or camwhore with (like us), he or she will be so bored on the approx 20 minutes cable car ride. Once at the terminal, there is literally nothing to see and do. So unless you are really bored, don't bother to go down. Perhaps one immediately ride the cable car uphill again.

I would say the whole ride is very smooth. But the forward looking seats when going downhill can be quite scary for the weak hearted.

We found some noodles on the exterior of the cabin. Wonder how it got there??

Cam-whore shots..

Most of the 2nd day was spent in the Outdoor and Indoor Theme Park. Tickets cost RM51 for unlimited rides for both parks. As it was not the peak season, the crowd in the theme park is much lesser compared to my last trip. Most of them were Indian and Middle East Tourists. There is no addition to the variety of games in the Theme Park. So i played practically everything before. But for the fun on it, i still went on most of the rides. It was rather disappointing that the Cockscrew and the Flying chair thing was under maintainence. We took some of the exciting rides twice and on the 2nd round, we were aiming not to scream at all. Haha. One ride that i had not tired was the flying coaster. Sounds and look thrilling, but it is just so so. The girls did not even scream at all during the ride. Thus i can conclude that it is not scary enough. Among the rides, the most thrilling one would be the Vertical Drop. I call it suicide machine. Only 4 of us dared to go onto it and it was the ride that made me scream the loudest and it was also this that gave me the most 'kick'. Apart from all the exciting ride, I also went onto those kiddy rides such as Merry-go-round, teacups and the flying elephant. The outdoor theme park ended with almost all of us on the boat and forming one straight line. The sight is indeed really funny. and how can i forget to mention the super cannot make it "Pirate Train" that sent most of us into stitches when we came out.

There are plenty of food choices in Genting. From Chinese to malay to western, everything also have. Our atas dinner at Happy Valley Restaurant was cheaper than Marybrown. But we each only had 5 pieces of vege and 5 pieces of meat. haha.. The food taste rather nice there and I think next time we should order more. We also had a lot of Baskin Robins ice cream. Price wise is ok, but the fact that we cannot get it in SG made us eat a lot. The rest of the food is just the usual boring stuff. Nothing exciting.

This time round, i got to stay in Tower 2 of First World Hotel. It was better than Tower 1, as the bathroom for rooms in Tower 2 is slightly bigger. In Tower 1, the shower cubicle and the toilet cubicle were separated and both cubicles are so tiny that it made movement inside difficult. The window view from my room is still horrible though. Facing into other's room. Well, this is what we get for the price that we are paying. Anyway, we seldom stay in our room so it doesn't matter. The bad thing about such rooms is that one has to draw the curtain while sleeping and I wouldn't really know if it is daylight alreadly outside.

As mentioned above, what makes this trip different from previous Genting trips is the company of geog soc ppl. I still remember all the fun we had in the party room on the first night, making our 'video', all the cam whoring moments and all jump shots at the theme park. Not forgetting the numerous jokes about 'spoil' and the "chang chang chang chang chang.... huang.. kong!"

So we left Genting happily after 2 days of fun up there... It was on to the hot hot hot Malacca. Will blog more about Malacca in the next post.
